New Tools for Non-Profits and Community Causes at Social Group Forum Facebook

As someone who was involved in community cause project, I was thrilled to hear this new update from Facebook! For those who aren’t familiar yet with Social Group Forum, it’s an annual event held (two so far), focusing on new tools and features available on Facebook for non-profits and charities to help them with their causes.

As a fundraiser you’re doing your best with the resources available (which usually are not that many) to spread the awareness for your cause and eventually donation/contribution. At the end of November 2017, Facebook announced their new features to help charities and non-profit organizations, that can also be used for non-charity purposes.

So what are they?

Blood Donation features

According to Facebook, back in September 2017 more than 4 million donors in India have donated their blood. The app connects donors with organizations.

Mentorship and Support

Here’s how they described it:

“It is a new product that connects people who may need support and advice to achieve their goals with people who have the expertise and experience to help. The mentee and mentor are matched by a nonprofit partner organization and work through a step-by-step program on Facebook developed by the nonprofit organization and tailored to the needs of the mentee.”

Nonprofit Fundraising Tool

(My favorite) where you can use this tool to raise fund for non-profit organizations. Get this: now donations received will go 100% to the organization, with no fee! For now it’s available for people in United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Portugal, Denmark, Norway, Austria, Finland and Luxembourg.

Personal Fundraiser

Think of it like the Kickstarter. Available in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Austria, Finland, Luxembourg, Sweden, Denmark and New Zealand.

New Fundraisers API

This could help you reaching friends on Facebook faster, and then they may share your campaign. These are the categories available: Education, medical, pet medical, crisis relief, personal emergency, funeral & loss, sports, and community.

Community Help API

Which helps disaster response organizations to respond faster and more efficient by offering insights (from public Community Help posts) on the needs of people affected by the crises.

It’s great that Facebook focusing more and more to help charity and non-profit organizations, considering their monthly active users were 2.07 billion as of September 30, 2017, an increase of 16% year-over-year. It’s still the place to be to reach out to the community and raise as much fund as possible for your cause.
